Happy Valentine's Day, guys! I hope you got to spend today or yesterday or any day of the year with someone that you love - whether it be a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, cat, dog, baby, anything or anyone. Yes, I'm a Valentine's Day fan... lest we forget I enjoy coordinating my outfits with holidays!? :) I'll admit I especially have a soft spot for Valentine's Day, though, because it's the day my boyfriend and I officially became a couple. Today is the ninth year we have been together! Crazy business!
Gingham Dress: Old Navy, Old Navy outlet store, $15
Neckace: FREE, given to me by co-worker (from ShopTheLook.net)
Belt: DIY - cut fabric from an old top
Heart Socks: Bought at a dollar store, $1
Boots: Franco Fortini, eBay, ?
Glasses: SEE Eyewear
OK, let's just put it out there - I cheated a little bit today. That black dress you see underneath the gingham dress? Totally not one of my 30 for 30 items. But I think you'll forgive me when you find out why I wore it... Without wearing something underneath the gingham dress, I would have basically been showing my goods to the world. I'm not sure how I did not notice this could happen when I tried the dress on but sometimes you just get all excited when trying on a black and white gingham dress and all your cares go to the wayside - that's the only reason I can think of for this happening! Basically, the buttons are spaced a bit too far from each other and there is some major gapping going on at all times. Additionally, this dress is too big on me up top but the size down wouldn't fit around my bootie. And you know what? I don't appreciate that smaller size for not liking my cookie eating, big bootied self. Whatever. Basically, this will probably only be worn with pants from here on out. Now you know why.
See how the top is, well, way too big on me? I guess you could call this a relaxed fit but I personally just don't look or feel too great in relaxed fit. It tends to make me feel floppy. I do think I would like it better if it wasn't buttoned up but I didn't want to go that route today since that would be displaying more of the black dress which isn't part of my remix. I already feel bad about semi-cheating, I didn't want to broadcast it on top of it. You know, because I'm sure some 30x30 alarm would have gone off when I walked outside my apartment door.
Do you like the day glo belt? It was something I cooked up late last night after realizing I hated the flimsy matching belt that came with the dress. (Wow, I'm really selling you guys on this dress today, huh?) I bought the top that this belt is made from eons ago at the thrift store and decided it didn't work in my closet soon after - though I loved the color. I realized last night that it matched my crazy necklace perfectly and the rest is history.
And the necklace... It was given to me by a co-worker because her sweet mom had bought it for her. And she hated it. Ha ha. This is actually the exact conversation they had - Mom: "I bought this necklace for you... I saw it in a magazine and the magazine said these are all the rage right now!" Co-Worker: "I will never wear that. But I know the perfect person who will!" Yes, please! Isn't that sweet and sort of sad all at the same time? Ha ha. Her mom at least meant well... and I totally benefited! Truthfully, it isn't something I would probably ever buy myself but I am always willing to rock something at least once. I like this necklace, it's really fun - I just don't have much for it to go with. I think it worked pretty well today, though, don't you think?
And, finally, I leave you with the sweet Valentine's Day card I received in the mail from my grandpa today. It totally made my day... I absolutely love my grandpa. (And he knows me well, as his poem shows you.)
Violets are blue
You're always late
But I still love you
Your pics are awesome!
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day!!
i love the story of how you got the necklace. i, for one, think it's perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteAwww, I love your grandpa! I don't even know him, but I think we would be fast friends.
ReplyDeleteNow, let's talk about that OUTFIT! Humina humina, girlfriend! Love it!
I love love LOVE that gingham dress. Your grandpa's card cracked me up. I love cards with a sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteI wanted the lighter version of the gingham dress but found the same problem: gaping at the buttons. Love your look, by the way. The DIY belt looks awesome. For a second there I thought you were wearing the Refined Rubgy Dress from Anthropologie.

Um, I think public decency trumps 30 for 30 ;)
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine's Day. Happy Anniversary of officially becoming a couple too :)

Katie! The gingham is ADORABLE! Your site really reflects my fashion philosophy which is that you don't need to drop a ton of money to be stylish. I'm looking forward to trying and recording the 30x30 challenge later in the spring! I can't wait to see more of your outfits!

Public decency does indeed trump 30x30 but it's okay. It's like you're wearing it as an undergarment, which is okay in Kendi's official rules. :) I think you should wear it like this often because it looks really great. I feel ya on the necklace; it's not something I would buy myself but I love it and I'd love to wear it!!!

I have this dress! And I agree about its shortcomings-- the gaping between buttons, too loose up top. It basically looks like a night dress on me (I'm petite) so, I have to find ways to get around it. Check it out...
