20/30: Orange Monday

Like I said the other day - I was really excited to receive the necklace Laurelann made for me because I knew it would look perfect with an outfit that I had already planned to wear...

20/30: Orange Monday
Pants: New York and Company, OLDDD
Grey Tshirt: Old Navy, $6 (sale)
Sweater: Joseph A., thrifted, $4.40
Flats: Merona, thrifted, $4
Necklace: Won in a giveaway/Made for me by Laurelann!
Bracelets: Walmart, OLDDD
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

Check out that sunlight! I'm digging it! Isn't it amazing how much sunlight makes an impression on your mood? I've been in a happy mood all day and can't think of anything different in my day other than feeling some actual sunlight!

20/30: Orange Monday

I bought this bracelet over the summer at Walmart to match an outfit I had planned. A little bit of an impulse buy... especially considering I have yet to wear it since. Oops. But then along came this thrifted cardigan and this necklace and now I have many more reasons to wear it! Can't shake a stick at that. (P.S. My fingers are painted a glittery gold... unfortunately they look rather yellow here. I promise it is nail polish!)

20/30: Orange Monday

In case you missed my post the other day - This is the necklace that I won as part of a surprise giveaway from Laurelann. This photo does it more justice than the one I took the other day. How funky and fun is it? I absolutely love it... especially loving the length of it as well. I've been craving some longer necklaces to add into my wardrobe and this one fit the ticket perfectly!

20/30: Orange Monday

Now look at the two together: the bracelet and the necklace. Match made in heaven? I think so!

19/30: Black Tie

Today's post is brought to you by my messy bed, my messy hair and my messy jewelry box. Oops. And babies... because I wore this outfit to go to a friend/co-worker's baby shower today.

19/30: Black Tie
Skirt: Juno, thrifted, $2.99
Denim Shirt: Blue Asphalt, thrifted, $1.40
Black/White Stripe Tank: H&M, OLDDD
Black Scarf: Dollar Store, $1 :)
Belt: Target, OLDDD
Boots: CA Collection by Cirrini, thrifted, $6.50
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

I never know how to dress for a baby or bridal shower. Sometimes they are rather dressy and sometimes they're really relaxed. I decided to hit the best of both worlds to play it safe. Denim on top so I didn't look overdressed if it was relaxed attire. Long skirt on the bottom so I would still look appropriate if it was more dressy. The scarf was added to keep my neck warm. The only downfall to having short hair is that your neck is always cold. :)

I hope you all had a nice weekend! I spent yesterday at the Ren Cen building down town, walking around with my boyfriend, eating Salsarita's for lunch (any place I can get fresh cilantro on my taco is instantly in my book of favorites) and catching an evening showing of I Am Number Four.

18/30: Mocha Latte

Remember when I wore this dress this week and called it Mocha? Well, I topped the dress with a white/tan stripe button up and am calling it Mocha Latte today.

18/30: Mocha Latte
Dress: Coldwater Creek, thrifted, $3.50
Top: GAP, thrifted, $3.80
Scarf (belt): Apt 9, Kohls, old
Boots: St. John's Bay, thrifted, $4.60
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

It was a little bit too bunchy for my liking - kind of like the other day. I neglected to tell you guys last week that this dress is actually four sizes bigger than what I would normally wear. Was I crazy to buy it? Maybe - but it looks perfect when belted and it was $3.50. It was a no brainer for me.

You know what made my day extra bright today? Getting the most amazing mail that I have gotten in a long time from Laurelann over at Opinionated Girl vs. Wide, Wide World! I was one of the winners in her surprise giveaway and she made these goodies especially for me!

Look what I won!

Handmade super cool goodies and a super sweet card that completely made my week... what could be better? That pouch right there is made from magazine cutouts and is stitched together - so stinking cool! Totally something I would wear and I plan on doing so tomorrow when I go out for drinks after work with friends and co-workers.

Look what I won!

And the necklace? Don't even get me started! Cannot wait to wear it & I actually have the perfect 30x30 outfit planned to pair it with! Laurelann, you must know this girl loves orange! Thank you, thank you, thank you, sweet girl! :)

17/30: Easy Street

Sometimes you wake up in the morning wanting something easy and light. Today was one of those days for me. This isn't something I would normally pair together, but I think it worked out ok.

17/30: Easy Street
Top: J. Crew, thrifted, $1.75
Skirt: Peter Popovitch, thrifted, $1.50
Boots: Franco Fortini, eBay, OLD
Necklace: Gift from my Secret Santa at work this year!
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

I've been itching to wear this necklace since my "Secret Santa" gifted it to me over the Christmas holiday in December. Each day of Secret Santa week at work I received a new jewelry gift! It was by far one of the best Secret Santa years I have had yet, for sure.

17/30: Easy Street

This skirt is always an easy choice for me. It feels like I am wearing nothing all day long, as stange as that sounds. It's black, it's pleated and it's a soft, smooth material that is still machine washable. Katie approved right there, folks. Plus, it has good movement... you know how much I like that...

17/30: Easy Street

What do you turn to for an easy look?

16/30: Layering Up

I spent all of last night and this morning freezing. It didn't matter how many blankets, sweatshirts and Snuggies I wore or how many teddy bear boyfriends I had next to me (one, for those curious, ha ha) - I. Was. Freezing. That being said, I was SO read to bundle up on today's 30 for 30 outfit...

16/30: All Layered Up
Dress: Leslie Fay (vintage), thrifted, $1.70
Turtleneck: Old Navy, $7, Old Navy outlet store
Jersey Cardi: Old Navy, $4 (clearance)
Boots: St John's Bay, thrifted, $4.60
Belt: Taken from a pair of shorts
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

Thing is... it actually ended up feeling too bulky. The top of this dress is already rather large on me, so I think that was the deciding factor in feeling too bunchy. Plus, I think the long turtleneck and long cardigan were just too... well, long... with the longer dress. If this doesn't scream grandma, I'm not sure what will. It's ok. I like grandmas.

I'd be lying through my teeth if I told you I wasn't having a hard time with the challenge. I feel as though I've hit my point where my ideas on remixing have gone kaput... I'm working through it, however, and will be here to the end!

How was your Monday? Are you feeling the middle of the challenge burn too?

February 21, 2011

12, 13, 14, 15... A little bit of catch up!

Did you guys think I gave up on the 30 for 30? I hope not! I may not have been posting the past few days but I have absolutely been participating. I apologize for my lack of posts... I had a four day weekend from work and, well, was enjoying it to the fullest and taking care of my poor, sick boyfriend! Needless to say, my camera and I had a catch up date tonight...

Day 12 - Singing the Blues

12/30: Singing the Blues
Turtleneck: Old Navy, $7, Old Navy outlet store
Pants: New York and Company, OLD
Boots: CA Collection by Cirrini, $6.50, thrifted
Necklace: ?, thrifted
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

I secretly toyed with not even showing you this outfit and skipping over it all together. I just didn't really dig it. You know those days where everything feels like it fits wrong? Yep, this was one of those days. It happens!

Day 13 - Tough Stripes

14/30: Tough Stripes
Black Top: Mossimo, Target, OLD
Sweater: Mossimo, Target, $4.50 (clearance)
Jeans: Mossimo Premium, Target, OLD
Shoes: Merona, thrifted, $4
Necklace: Gift handmade by my BFF
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

I loved the combination of this sweater and this necklace. It was the perfect combination of soft and tough. This sweater is so light but is so, so warm and soft. The necklace was given to me last year from my best friend. She made it out of washers and ribbon and I always get five zillion compliments on it. Can't beat that!

14/30: Tough Stripes

My favorite part? The way the ribbon falls in the back... looks super pretty, no?

Day 14 - Girl Talk

13/30: Girl Talk
Dress: Mossimo, Target, $7 (clearance)
Jean shirt: Blue Asphalt, thrifted, $1.40
Belt: Taken from a sweater
Hat: Won in giveaway
Shoes: Merona, thrifted, $4
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

I spent this day with my best friend. We went out for a little thrift shopping (hey, I'm honest... but promise I only spent a few dollars...) and an amazing dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. Allow me to highly recommend their Roasted Garlic Chicken pizza. It was so amazing that I ate the leftovers the next morning for breakfast. Ha ha.

Day 15 - Home Shopping

15/30: Home Shopping
Black Top: Mossimo, Target, OLD
Jeans: Mossimo Premium, Target, OLD
Scarf: MimiBird, won in a giveaway at Snappy Casual
Bracelets: Handmade Christmas gift from my sister
Socks: Old Navy, $2, Old Navy outlet store
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

And finally, today's outfit! Today is my last day off from my four day weekend and, of course, the day my boyfriend finally felt better. Figures, doesn't it? We spent the day at IKEA shopping for some new home goods to spruce up and organize our tiny space. We stopped for some lunch at Max and Erma's and ended up getting it for FREE because it took so long for them to bring it out to us... YAY!

15/30: Home Shopping

Loving this MimiBird scarf that I won in a giveaway over at Snappy Casual! Perfect for a comfortable, casual day... especially for this short haired, cold-necked girl! :)

You may be wondering what shoes I wore while at IKEA. Well, I wore snow boots which are not part of my 30 for 30 pieces. It snowed probably around 12 inches here yesterday so the roads, sidewalks and parking lots are still a huge mess.

February 16, 2011

11/30: Mocha

This dress... I bought it before Christmas at a Salvation Army that I had never been to as I was out of town visiting my aunt and uncle. I was delighted with the find. I love shirt dresses and this one had a perfectly full skirt. Plus, it's made by Coldwater Creek, which I have found to be a great brand. Their items are usually out of my price range, though - this cute denim shirt dress is $89.95. My dress? It cost my $3.50. Salvation Army to the rescue, yet again!

11/30: Mocha
Dress: Coldwater Creek, thrifted, $3.50
Belt: Liz Claiborne, thrifted, $1
Necklace: Kohl's, old
Gold Bangle: ??, old and HEAVY
Boots: St. John's Bay, thrifted, $4.60
Argyle Socks: Xhilaration, Target, $3.50 (clearance)
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

I'm not going to lie. I think my favorite thing about this dress is the way it swishes. Yes, swishes. I can walk and have the full skirt hit my arms as I walk. Something about that feels very dramatic, fun and pretty... am I the only one who loves this?

And, yes, that is my front door decorated for Valentine's Day. I'll take the hearts down soon, I swear.

11/30: Mocha

This bracelet looks great but can be a bit uncomfortable. It has incredible weight to it so it tends to clang against everything all day long. I typically wear bracelets on my left wrist because I am left-handed - wearing bracelets on my right hand feels strange. This normally does not pose an issue until I wear this one and try to write all day long... its weight wins and before long, it is switched to my right wrist.

I can't wait to style this dress in different ways - I felt I should keep it original and simple the first time I wore it.

10/30: Happy Valentine's Day!

(If you're wondering what happened to my ninth outfit, never fear... I didn't forget how to count, I'm just behind on posting about it as I wanted to include how the Michigan Blogger Meetup went and all that jazz.)

Happy Valentine's Day, guys! I hope you got to spend today or yesterday or any day of the year with someone that you love - whether it be a boyfriend, girlfriend, husband, wife, cat, dog, baby, anything or anyone. Yes, I'm a Valentine's Day fan... lest we forget I enjoy coordinating my outfits with holidays!? :) I'll admit I especially have a soft spot for Valentine's Day, though, because it's the day my boyfriend and I officially became a couple. Today is the ninth year we have been together! Crazy business!

10/30: Happy Valentine's Day!
Gingham Dress: Old Navy, Old Navy outlet store, $15
Neckace: FREE, given to me by co-worker (from ShopTheLook.net)
Belt: DIY - cut fabric from an old top
Heart Socks: Bought at a dollar store, $1
Boots: Franco Fortini, eBay, ?
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

OK, let's just put it out there - I cheated a little bit today. That black dress you see underneath the gingham dress? Totally not one of my 30 for 30 items. But I think you'll forgive me when you find out why I wore it... Without wearing something underneath the gingham dress, I would have basically been showing my goods to the world. I'm not sure how I did not notice this could happen when I tried the dress on but sometimes you just get all excited when trying on a black and white gingham dress and all your cares go to the wayside - that's the only reason I can think of for this happening! Basically, the buttons are spaced a bit too far from each other and there is some major gapping going on at all times. Additionally, this dress is too big on me up top but the size down wouldn't fit around my bootie. And you know what? I don't appreciate that smaller size for not liking my cookie eating, big bootied self. Whatever. Basically, this will probably only be worn with pants from here on out. Now you know why.

10/30: Happy Valentine's Day!

See how the top is, well, way too big on me? I guess you could call this a relaxed fit but I personally just don't look or feel too great in relaxed fit. It tends to make me feel floppy. I do think I would like it better if it wasn't buttoned up but I didn't want to go that route today since that would be displaying more of the black dress which isn't part of my remix. I already feel bad about semi-cheating, I didn't want to broadcast it on top of it. You know, because I'm sure some 30x30 alarm would have gone off when I walked outside my apartment door.

100_5714

Do you like the day glo belt? It was something I cooked up late last night after realizing I hated the flimsy matching belt that came with the dress. (Wow, I'm really selling you guys on this dress today, huh?) I bought the top that this belt is made from eons ago at the thrift store and decided it didn't work in my closet soon after - though I loved the color. I realized last night that it matched my crazy necklace perfectly and the rest is history.

100_5710

And the necklace... It was given to me by a co-worker because her sweet mom had bought it for her. And she hated it. Ha ha. This is actually the exact conversation they had - Mom: "I bought this necklace for you... I saw it in a magazine and the magazine said these are all the rage right now!" Co-Worker: "I will never wear that. But I know the perfect person who will!" Yes, please! Isn't that sweet and sort of sad all at the same time? Ha ha. Her mom at least meant well... and I totally benefited! Truthfully, it isn't something I would probably ever buy myself but I am always willing to rock something at least once. I like this necklace, it's really fun - I just don't have much for it to go with. I think it worked pretty well today, though, don't you think?

And, finally, I leave you with the sweet Valentine's Day card I received in the mail from my grandpa today. It totally made my day... I absolutely love my grandpa. (And he knows me well, as his poem shows you.)

Card from my grandpa :)
Roses are red
Violets are blue
You're always late
But I still love you

9/30: Michigan Blogger Meetup!

My best friend, Alicia, and I spent last Friday night in Ann Arbor at the Michigan Blogger Meetup. (Alicia does not write a blog but that is hopefully subject to change. This girl is the best remixer I know, hands down.) I'm normally pretty reserved so going to an outing where I don't technically know anyone (aside from blog stalking, hee hee) is a bit nerve racking. I ended up having a great time, though, and I hope I wasn't too noticeably quiet. :)

Best part of the night? Getting to meet Suze (of Miss Vinyl Ahoy) and Vanessa (of Snappy and Savvy) in person! They're both so nice and fun! I'm pretty sure Suze had me laughing all night long.

Can you tell how awkward I feel with someone else taking my pictures? I'm used to it being me, my tripod and my cat watching... ha ha. That is something I need to get over.

8/30: Double Collar

Remember how I told you I bought a few things from the thrift store before the 30x30 began? This dress is another piece from that little collection. I saw the print on it and instantly fell in love.

8/30: Double Collar
Dress: Leslie Fay (vintage), thrifted, $1.70
Top: J. Crew, thrifted, $1.75
Boots: St. John's Bay, thrifted, $4.60
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

I finally know the total amount that this outfit cost. I typically never know my total prices of my outfits because I usually have a few pieces of clothing that are super old sprinkled in with my newer things. But this one... this one is all thrifted and a grand total of $8.05. Suffice it to say, I'm rather delighted with that business.

100_5644

"Popping" my collar always makes me feel like a mix between Fonzie and those dudes that wore polos with the collars up a few years ago. I can never get over this. I will forever have dudes with pink polos and popped collars forever ingrained in my mind. This does not stop me from doing it though. :)

8/30: Double Collar

I know this photo is not very clear but I can't resist a good sun on my dress photo. Yes, that is real sun shining on my dress. It may have been like -8 degrees here today in Michigan but we did have sun!

7/30: Easy Living

Sometimes there is nothing better than a classic button up and a comfy sweater, am I right? I took that idea and tried to run with it today by adding in a splash of different patterns.

7/30: Easy Living
Sweater: Old Navy, thrifted, $2.30
Black/White Button Up: Persaman New York, thrifted, $3.60
Black Pants: New York and Company, olddddd
Socks: Target, $2
Shoes: Dolce Vita for Target, $7.48
Necklace: Thrifted, olddd
Glasses: SEE Eyewear

Confession: Before the 30x30 started, I made a quick run to a thrift store I had never been to and found a bunch of goodies. I added them into my remix without even trying them on. This can have two effects: 1) It turns out really well or 2) It works terribly. There doesn't seem to be a grey area when I do this - it is either really great or really bad. Luckily, so far, it's been really good. This button up and sweater were two items included in my bag of chance.

7/30: Easy Living

I love the pattern on both. You all already know I'm a huge fan of black and white together. I could probably live in black and white. But, yeah, it would probably get a little boring after a while, even for me.

I was quite excited when I found this sweater because I've been wanting one with a similar design. It's perfect for winter, no? Plus, I really liked the colors this one has - black, grey, white, tan and aqua. Perfect combination to wear with almost anything.

7/30: Easy Living

I was pretty happy to pull this necklace out from the depths of my jewelry box. It normally gets no use during the winter because it seems like it is better suited with my summer clothes... but I hate when that happens! Why save things for only one part of the year (well, I mean, unless it's a swimsuit, of course...)?! This was the perfect sweater to pair it up with and set those silly notions to the side.

Day 6/30: Blazerific

Did you know today is Blazer Day over at Every Body, Every Wear? True story. I was happy to pull this oldie but goodie out of my closet not only for the 30x30 but also Blazer Day! I found this velvet blazer at the thrift store last year some time in perfect condition. It literally has no low points: It's velvet (ooohh), it's lined yet still machine washable (ahhh) and it fits pretty darn good.

Notice anything different? Yep, this girl has herself a fresh new look thanks to my amazing hair stylist. The lighting in my apartment is wretched so you'll have to stay tuned for a better look at the color. But, I think going from this to this was an upgrade - wouldn't you say so?

Also, I loaded up on the bling today. And I liked it a lot.

My new favorite necklace. It's dark yet sparkly. I bought it at the Recessionista Shop after winning a gift certificate to the site from Work Your Closet. Recessionista Shop... does that sound like it was made for me or what!?
